This was a collective efforts of the representatives from eight African countries who worked with us to draft this integrated waste management policy, suitable for the African countries. Many have started adopting policies based on this document.

This report was published to impress upon the Parliamentary Standing Committee to revise the Mines and Mineral (Development and Regulation) (MMDR) Act, 1957 keeping in view the environmental and social aspects of the mining sector. They took note of the report and instituted the District Mineral Foundation (DMF).

This rating showed the massive gap in pollution regulations in the thermal power sector. The rating was used by the government to revise the pollution norms of the thermal power sector after 20 years.

A first of its kind study in India that established the presence of mercury in the human body and the environment due to emissions fromn the coal power plants in Singrauli, Uttar Pradesh.

The rating exposed the poor environmental performance of the steel industry. GRP’s recommendations were taken seriously and many companies including JSW and SAIL worked with GRP to improve their performance.

This study highlighted the presence of toxic Phthalates in toys being imported from China.

This laboratory study highlighted the presence of Lead in household paints in India. The study convinced few manufacturers to phase-out Lead from their products.

This study done by the researchers from the Resources for the Future, USA found that the GRP led to significant reductions in pollution among dirty plants.

This rating told the world that Indian industry can be the global best. The rating established that the Indian cement industry is the world’s best on energy efficiency and GHG emissions. But it also pushed the industry to improve its mining practices.

India’s first body burden study that established high levels of pesticides in the blood of farmers from the cotton belt of Punjab. This study catalyzed action against pesticides in Punjab.

To check the impacts of the first rating, the paper industry was rated again in 2004. This rating showed how GRP had helped industry move towards better resource efficiency and pollution control.

This rating was instrumental in raising the issue of mercury pollution in India. It convinced the government to phase-out mercury cell process.
